What's new

Recent changes to Verdictris, and where each one is explained.

Verdictris changes often, and a rule you learned last month may play differently now. This page lists the changes a player would notice, newest first, with the date each one reached the game and a link to the guide section that covers it. Interface polish and internal fixes that change nothing at the table are left out.

  1. · Faces on reveals

When a message in the outcome feed unmasks a player, that player's face is now drawn beneath it, so you can match the reveal to a seat at a glance instead of reading the name twice.

  2. · Push, Scars, and Look back

Three ways a match now shapes your seat. Push adds a point to one night ability you declared each cycle, for 1 Heat, unless another bonus already covers that roll. A wound that drops you to your last life heals into a permanent trait that raises one stat and lowers another. And when someone slips past you on the map, your Perception gives you a chance to note one detail about them. See the Dice Guide and Learn.

  3. · Learned the hard way

Failing two contests in a row with the same kind of ability now earns a one-time bonus on the next attempt of that kind, so a run of bad luck on reads or guards eventually turns. Attacks are excluded. Details in the Dice Guide.

  4. · Each ability rolls its own stat

Abilities used to roll Offense regardless of what they did. Now an investigation rolls Perception, a guard rolls Defense, covert work rolls Stealth, and persuasion rolls Influence, which makes a seat's stat line say much more about what it is good at. The Dice Guide lists every pairing.

  5. · Economy Control

The Common Good, Neutral, and Evil now compete for a public share of the city's books. Every role has one existing ability that moves the balance, and the side with the edge earns more and pays less at the market. The Black Market Guide covers how it changes prices.

  1. · A Black Market with memory

Auctions now settle at one dollar over the runner-up's bid, everyday protection is priced so the poorest seats can reach it, and a fence buys, upgrades, and resells goods. Purchases are collected at a public drop cell, and a market weapon carries a lot number that ballistics can trace. Read the Black Market Guide.

  2. · Hints behind anonymous reports

Every anonymous report now adds one sentence about the kind of hand behind it. Each hint fits at least two roles, and one in five is deliberately misleading, so it narrows a question without answering it. See the Evidence Guide.

  3. · Bike and Car

Relocating walks up to three cells. Two new market items change that: a Bike doubles the distance, and a Car reaches any cell the same night. The Strategy Guide covers timing a move.

  4. · Counterplay for every seat

Any role can now answer a hostile move. Four reactions ride on the stance you commit to: bracing against a lethal strike, returning fire, resisting a detention or arrest, and keeping an alibi against a frame, and a jailed seat can appeal an execution. In court, citizens can petition to open a trial, any juror can challenge a Double Vote, and a large enough guilty majority can refuse an offered plea. Read the Trial Handbook.

  5. · A signature stance for every role

Each role now has one stance that changes how its own signature ability works, and no two roles share the same effect. The Role Encyclopedia describes each role's tools.

  6. · An open bounty board

A public board now posts bounties on players, and it pays for bringing a target into custody as well as for a kill, so hunting a bountied seat is work every faction can do without bloodshed.

  7. · Crowds on the crime map

Every map cell now shows one of five street conditions, from deserted to seething. A busy street is likelier to see what you do and less able to say who did it, and the cell readout tells you both before you commit. See the Evidence Guide.

  8. · The city grows deadlier

Pressure that rises for every faction as a match goes on: untreated wounds can turn infectious, stray rounds can hit bystanders, curfews close districts late in the match, and a forensic report on each killing arrives two cycles later.

  9. · One beat at a time

The outcome feed now reveals a resolved cycle one moment at a time, holding each message on screen long enough to read before the next arrives.

  10. · Work that feeds the city

Choosing Prepare for Work now also adds your profession's contribution to the city, raising its economy, fear, confidence, or district influence, on top of the stance's own income and cover.

  11. · An icon for everything

Every item, ability, and role now has its own pixel icon, so two different things never share a picture. Map locations, weather, and headlines followed a day later.

August 2026

  1. · Questions in open court

A question put to a named player in public trial chat now creates an obligation to answer, refuse on the record, or let it lapse, and the court is told once when it lapses. A player who has not spoken since the question is never marked as evasive. See the Trial Handbook.

  2. · Hideouts

An ally network can propose a building to take over as its hideout and approve it in a vote only that network sees. Allies near an active hideout get a small standing edge until someone finds it and burns it down.
